Floors for Shops and Acreage on the Hill

Epoxy flooring in Evaro usually means a shop, a pole building or a detached garage. Evaro covers about 17 square miles but had only 373 residents in 2020, roughly 22 people per square mile. Properties are spread out, and many come with outbuildings that work harder than any house garage. We drive about 20 miles north from downtown Missoula on US 93 to reach them.

Elevation and your slab

Evaro sits at 4,882 feet. That is far above Arlee to the north at 3,091 feet and the Clark Fork towns west of Missoula at around 3,000 feet. Higher ground tends to mean colder nights and a shorter warm season, and an unheated detached building can stay cold well into spring. Most coatings list a minimum slab temperature for proper cure. We measure the concrete on the day, and in cool weather we lean on polyaspartic floor coatings, which can be applied across a wider temperature range than standard epoxy. When a building can be heated safely, we can sometimes work earlier in the season. Evaro's low population density also means many buildings sit on gravel drives. Gravel and dust ride in on tires and boots, so a textured, chip-hiding finish is worth considering even in a shop.

What a working shop floor needs

  • Thorough degreasing and grinding. Oil, hydraulic fluid and antifreeze soak into bare concrete. They have to come out, or the coating will lift.
  • Concrete crack and floor repair. Heavy equipment and frost movement open cracks and break joints. We fill those before coating.
  • A thicker build. Shop and commercial floor epoxy goes down heavier than a typical garage system, so dropped tools and jack stands do less damage.
  • A chemical-resistant topcoat. It keeps fuel and fluid spills from staining the floor.
  • Some texture. Grit in the topcoat or a flake broadcast helps footing when snow melts off equipment.

The house garage and lower level

We coat attached garages too. An epoxy flake floor is our usual suggestion for a garage that sees snow and gravel dust, since the chips disguise both. For lower levels, basement floor epoxy goes down only after a moisture check.

On the reservation's southern edge

Evaro lies on the southernmost part of the Flathead Indian Reservation. US 93 runs four lanes from Hamilton through Evaro and Arlee, part of a highway project negotiated between the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, the state and the Federal Highway Administration that included 41 fish and wildlife crossings. Most of Evaro is in the Arlee school districts, with a small portion in Frenchtown's. For our work, the address mainly affects scheduling: we plan your job as a single trip up the highway when we can.

Pricing a large building

Shop floors are often larger than a house garage and may have floor drains, posts, steps or a sloped apron. Each of those adds edge work and time. We measure the full area, note every repair and give you a written quote that lists the prep, each coat and the total. If you only want part of a building coated, such as the work bay and not the storage side, we can price that section on its own.

Evaro Questions

Can you coat an unheated shop in Evaro?

Often, if the timing is right. We measure slab temperature on site and choose products rated for it. Late spring through early fall is the easiest window at this elevation. In cooler weather a polyaspartic system or a temporarily heated building may make it possible.

Will the coating hold up to tractors and heavy equipment?

Our shop floor systems are built thicker with a chemical-resistant topcoat for that kind of use. Steel tracks, chains and very heavy point loads can still mark any coating, so we talk through how you use the floor before choosing a system.

Do you come up US 93 to Evaro?

Yes. Evaro is about 20 miles north of downtown Missoula, and we serve it along with Arlee and the Jocko Valley.
